Summer Vacation (Japan)
Summer vacation is the longest school break in Japan, generally running from around July 20th to the end of August for elementary, junior high, and high schools. The start date and length vary by region and school: cooler regions such as Hokkaido and Tohoku have shorter summer breaks and longer winter ones instead. This countdown uses July 20th as a reference date. With homework, independent research projects, morning radio calisthenics, family trips, and visits to grandparents, it is the most memory-filled season of the year for Japanese children.
