Showa Day (Japan)

Showa Day is a Japanese national holiday observed on April 29th to reflect on the turbulent Showa era and Japan's recovery, and to think about the country's future. The date was originally the birthday of Emperor Showa (Hirohito) and served as the Emperor's Birthday holiday throughout the Showa era. It became Greenery Day in 1989 and was renamed Showa Day in 2007, with Greenery Day moving to May 4th. The holiday also marks the opening of Golden Week, Japan's longest string of spring holidays.
