Mountain Day (Japan)

Mountain Day is a Japanese national holiday observed on August 11th to provide opportunities to get familiar with mountains and appreciate their blessings. Enacted in 2014 and first observed in 2016, it is one of Japan's newer national holidays. Falling just before the Obon holiday period, it is easy to combine with summer trips and visits to family homes for an extended break. As it lands in the middle of the summer climbing season, mountain regions across Japan host commemorative events and welcome hikers.
