Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) is the most important traditional holiday in East and Southeast Asia, celebrated based on the lunar calendar. The 15-day celebration involves family reunions, red envelope gifts (hongbao), firecrackers, dragon dances, and elaborate feasts. Each year corresponds to one of the 12 zodiac animals. The holiday triggers the worlds largest annual human migration (chunyun), with billions of trips made as people return to their hometowns. Major celebrations take place in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, and Vietnam.
